The purpose of the present invention is to obtain a press device capable of compressing long metal scraps and capable of pressing and compacting thin scrap pieces such as empty cans and empty drums, and further, a press method for small metal scraps using this press device.Provided is a press device provided with a supply channel in which a cuboid shaped space provided with an entrance opening and an exit opening facing the same is formed, and a downward facing hydraulic ram that squashes metal scrap brought into the supply channel downward and reduces the height dimension of the metal scrap to a predetermined dimension, said press device being configured such that: the entrance opening and the exit opening have respective doors that close at least the lower part of the entrance opening and the exit opening so as to define the supply channel; and an opening for bringing in small metal scrap such as empty cans is formed in the upper part of at least one of the entrance opening and exit opening by the closure of the doors.
