An automatic zooming-based self-adaptive image tracking method, the method comprising the following steps: detecting the size of a target image (S1); calculating the size of the target image relative to a screen (S2); determining whether zooming is required according to the size of the target image relative to the screen (S3); if yes, controlling a zooming mechanism to zoom; and if not, taking no action. Automatic zooming can be carried out according to the proportion of a target image in a screen, thus ensuring that a tracked target is kept at a certain proportion in the screen while ensuring accurate tracking of the image.
