Catalytic reactor configuration and preparation, and a method for directly synthesizing ethylene by catalyzing methane under an oxygen-free condition. The reactor configuration comprises an inlet section I, a pre-heating section II, a transition section III, a reaction section IV, and an outlet section. Except for the pre-heating section II and the reaction section IV, the inlet section I, the transition section III, and the outlet section V can be provided or not according to reaction conditions. The process achieves zero carbon formation from methane and the highly selective synthesis of ethylene.
