A flexible storage system is disclosed. According to the present invention, the storage system comprises: a storage mother board; and a storage adapter circuit. The storage mother board receives the storage adapter circuit on an appropriate connector. The storage adapter circuit provides a protocol conversion between a host BUS interface and a storage interface. The storage adapter circuit provides routing to receive a plurality of large scale storage devices. The plurality of large scale storage devices may be connected to the storage adapter circuit through the storage mother board. The storage adapter circuit may be replaced with a circuit supporting another host interface or another storage interface.
