The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases containing an extract of Castanea crenata inner shells as an active ingredient. The test verified that an extract of Castanea crenata inner shells or a fraction thereof had an effect of inhibiting neuritis symptoms caused in microglial cells due to neurotoxin, and the present invention provides a composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases occurring in association with neuritis symptoms. According to the present invention, the extract of Castanea crenata inner shells or the fraction thereof acts on microglial cells to reduce nitrogen monoxide and inhibit the expression of iNOS and COX-2 genes, which are inflammation factors, and the expression of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β genes, which are inflammation related factors, thereby having an effect of suppressing neuritis symptoms and having an effect of presenting applicability for the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases through utilization thereof.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
