Method and System for Body and ROI Segmentation for Chest X-ray Images

Proposed are a method and a system for segmenting a body and a region of interest (ROI) in a chest x-ray image. The method, proposed according to the present invention, for segmenting the body and the ROI in the chest x-ray image includes the steps of: detecting background components by using a slope of a histogram while sequentially increasing brightness of the image with starting from a center of the histogram; reducing boundary errors between the detected background components and the ROI by using a guide filter; and removing portions other than the target region after performing an initial detection by defining a target region as a boundary point within the ROI, to segment the ROI by using a bounding box, such that the target region is detected.
