The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating arthritis, and more particularly, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating arthritis, which comprises COX-2, a biomarker of joint inflammation, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-Alpha) to prevent arthritis and alleviate symptoms, and to a composition for preventing and treating arthritis, which contains the same as an active ingredient. The Clostridium butyricum cells according to the present invention were found to have arthritis preventive and therapeutic effects by relieving arthritic symptoms in a concentration-dependent manner in an animal model of arthritis.;
