The present invention relates to a new concept-based inlet for a rectangular sedimentation basin, in which the upper part thereof is composed of a height adjustable porous baffle and the lower part thereof is open in order to maximize sedimentation efficiency and minimize the generation of jet streams in pores and the generation of density flows attributable to influent raw water near a water surface, i.e., the disadvantages of a baffle most widely used for inlets for sedimentation basins. Most of raw water enters through the lower open part of the inlet, and the generation of a density flow flowing downward from the upper part can be fundamentally prevented in a sedimentation basin. Turbid particles enter through the lower part, and thus the sedimentation distance of the turbid particles can be reduced, thereby maximizing sedimentation efficiency. Furthermore, the amount of raw water entering the upper porous baffle part is smaller than the amount of raw water entering the lower part due to resistance, and the raw water entering the upper porous baffle part minimizes the generation of unidirectional flows, such as vortices, in the upper part, thereby maximizing sedimentation efficiency.
