An apparatus and a method for controlling an avatar using an expression control point are disclosed. The avatar control apparatus tracks a position of a feature point and a head movement from a facial expression of a user, removes the head movement at the position of the feature point, and then generates an expression control point. Accordingly, the facial expression of the user can be reflected in a face of the avatar.
