Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) is a stress-responsive cytokine known to be associated with adverse events in heart failure patients. The use of cerrelacine has been shown to affect the level of GDF-15 at baseline and the decrease in GDF-15 levels over time. Measuring GDF-15 levels makes it possible for healthcare providers to accurately predict lung loads in patients with lung congestion.
