Disclosed are a battery system for predicting battery state of charge (SOC) by using an open circuit voltage (OCV) estimated by a battery management module, and a method thereof. The battery management module according to an embodiment of the present invention can comprise: an OCV estimation step that estimates the OCV of a battery based on an OCV model defined by a plurality of inner parameters, wherein the plurality of inner parameters are derived from at least one among output voltage of the battery, a load current supplied to a load from the battery, and initial SOC of the battery; and a step of predicting SOC from the OCV based on a functional dependency relationship between the OCV and the SOC.
