A method for producing a spinel lithium manganese oxide as a cathode material for a lithium secondary battery according to the present invention comprises, by using monovalent thallium (Tl) as an additive in the synthesis of lithium manganese oxide, improves the high-temperature lifetime characteristics by increasing the proportion of manganese ions in the structure of tetravalent ions of oxidized water and the spinel lithium manganese oxide is produced as a positive electrode material for a lithium secondary battery capable of suppressing the capacity decrease by participating in the reaction of thallium oxide (Tl) in addition to manganese oxide with trivalent oxidation in the structure. According to the present invention, by containing thallium (Tl) in the spinel lithium manganese oxide as the positive electrode material for a lithium secondary battery, high capacity and excellent lifetime characteristics can be obtained due to the role of participating in the reaction by the increase of additives and oxidation water and there is an advantage that the capacity and the life characteristic can be appropriately controlled according to the demand of various application devices.
