The present invention relates to a composite hydrogen evolution catalyst comprising a two-dimensional layered metal sulfide bound uniformly to the shell portion of first-dimensional carbon nanofibers having a hollow structure with a hollow core portion, and a method for preparing the same. Particularly, a dual nozzle is used so that a spinning solution in which a precursor of a layered metal sulfide, sulfur salt and a polymer are dissolved is introduced to the outer nozzle, and a spinning solution in which a polymer pyrolyzed easily at high temperature is dissolved is introduced to the inner nozzle. In addition, the spun core-shell composite fibers are subjected to heat treatment to provide hollow carbon nanofibers having a hollow core portion. Further, a single layer or multiple layers of metal sulfide are bound or embedded to or in the shell portion. According to the hollow carbon nanofibers and two-dimensional metal sulfide, it is possible to provide a significantly increased surface area, which results in improved characteristics of an electrochemical hydrogen evolution catalyst. According to the present invention, relatively cheap materials and electro-spinning amenable to mass production are used to obtain a hydrogen evolution catalyst in a large scale. Such a hydrogen evolution catalyst can be used as a catalyst material for a photoelectrochemical water decomposition system or electrochemical water decomposition system for producing hydrogen gas which is an ideal energy source capable of substituting for fossil fuel gradually. Further, hydrogen gas produced through the catalyst can be stored in a large capacity energy storage device so that it may be supplied to an energy source for family use or a fuel cell and used as eco-friendly fuel for cars or industrial facilities.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2017
