The present invention relates to a pattern design system and, more specifically, to a pattern design system using cellular automaton and an iterative relocation processing unit and a method for controlling the same, which can be applied to various fields by easily converting a general image, such as raster graphics that are difficult to be converted to various images, to various images because a predetermined pattern is formed with information on extracting predetermined elements from the general image. The method for controlling the pattern design system capable of displaying individual cell of a display region composed of a plurality of cells in a predetermined color and displaying the cells in a predetermined pattern comprises: a data storing step of storing predetermined color code data for colors of the cells, and information of the predetermined pattern for a calculation process to display the cells with the individual color in a database; and a pattern information producing step of applying the predetermined color code data to the information of the predetermined pattern read from the database by using a pattern design information processing unit, and producing the color information of the individual cell.
