The present invention relates to a control method to improve transient performance of a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) system. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the control method to improve transient performance of an HVDC system includes the following steps of: (a) determining whether a rectifier of an HVDC system operates in a constant-current control mode by a control unit of an inverter control device for controlling an operation of an inverter of the HVDC system; (b) determining, by the control unit, whether the inverter operates in the constant-current control mode when the rectifier operates in the constant-current control mode; and (c) increasing an extinction angle command value applied to a constant extinction angle controller in the inverter control device by a predetermined extinction angle correction value by the control unit when the rectifier and the inverter operate in the constant-current control mode. The HVDC system can relatively reduce a voltage change of an AC system and output of an inverter in a process of recovering after the AC system of the rectifier malfunctions and can shorten the transient time which is a time required for reaching a normal state.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2017
