A passive and automated method and apparatus using an ACOMP system for active control of a polymerization reaction process are provided. In order to produce the desired final polymer product having specific characteristics from the polymerization reaction process, an ideal desired trajectory of one or more reaction and polymer characteristics can be established. The current reaction locus of the polymerization reaction process can be induced to an ideal or desired reaction locus. In a manual embodiment, the operator can use ACOMP data to adjust the process variables to direct the current reaction locus towards the ideal or desired reaction locus. In the automated mode, the control program can use the ACOMP data to make adjustments to process variables to emit the polymerization reaction process empirically or as close as possible to the desired trajectory by solving the governing equations for the polymerization reaction process.
