The present invention relates to a method of producing nanocrystals by using an ionic liquid. Specifically, the present invention relates to a method of producing nanocrystals by using an ionic liquid as a carrier for halide anions, comprising the step of dissolving a lead halide compound containing first halide anions, and an ionic liquid containing second halide anions in an organic solvent to form a halogen mixture. According to the present invention, the method may reduce the amount of lead halide to be used, and thus can resolve the environmental problem associated with the use of lead for producing nanocrystals.
