A slab defect predicting method in a continuous casting process according to an embodiment is disclosed. In the slab defect predicting method, a crack occurrence rate related to the rate of change of the peripheral speed and the basicity of the mold powder is obtained from a plurality of continuous casting operation data. The following crack prediction equation is derived by simulating the crack occurrence rate based on the peripheral speed variation and the basicity of the mold powder. From the above crack prediction formula, the ratio of the threshold (variation in peripheral velocity) / (basicity of mold powder) is derived. Crack prediction equation (Y) = A * exp (B * (peripheral variation / basicity)) where A and B are constants
