The present invention describes a method for making a spiral tube support device for use in backflow chromatography, an improvement on backflow chromatography tube support design, and an improved backflow chromatography device. The spiral tube support apparatus can in turn be fabricated by a shaping process such as a three-dimensional printing process using a laser sintering technique, which can be made of easily formed materials. The change in shape for both the tube support and the top has improved the performance and ease of fabrication of the tube support. Improved tube supports and fabrication methods enable their use in micro scale or large scale tablets and their use in small molecule or large molecule tablets. In particular, certain solvent systems have been described that allow the purification of proteins.
