A method and apparatus are provided for computing stride information. The stride information calculation apparatus calculates the stride information of the object using the first inertia signal and the second inertia signal. A first inertia signal is provided from a first inertial sensor of a target portable terminal and a second inertial signal is provided from a second inertial sensor attached to a target shoe or the like. If the second inertia signal is provided, the stride information calculation device calculates the stride parameter using the second inertia signal. If the second inertia signal is not provided, the previously calculated stride parameter is used to calculate the stride of the object .
