The present invention relates to a coupling mechanism between a control member (1 ') for generating manual flight commands in an aircraft and a trim actuator (4) forming part of a mechanical transmission train for delivering flight commands. This coupling mechanism includes axial engagement means between the lever arm 3 mechanically connected to the control member 1 'and the pivot shaft 10 forming part of the trim actuator 4. The axial engagement means comprise cooperating interlocking members (13, 14) arranged in engagement members (18, 19) forced to rotate with lever arm (3) and pivot shaft (10), respectively. Each of the engagement members 18,19 includes axial passages 26 that allow the remaining engagement members 18,19 to pass axially. By stopping the axial engagement, the engagement members 18, 19 are moved axially through each other under the influence of the axial thrust exerted by the resiliently deformable means 15 used to obtain the axial engagement .
