The present invention is directed to an exhaust aftertreatment system comprising a preferably catalytically active particulate filter (wall flow filter), preferably leading to a perfusion monolith having a catalytically active function (throughflow monolith). Both components have the same storage function for the gaseous substances present in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. Systems are particularly suited for the simultaneous removal of particulates and contaminants from exhaust gases of lean-burn internal combustion engines and internal combustion engines primarily operating with stoichiometric air / air mixture. The manufacturing process and method of use of such a system for exhaust gas post-treatment are similarly described.
