The manufacturing method consists of providing (210) a mechanical element. The tool is mechanically rubbed against the surface of the machine element (212). Process liquid is provided 214 in the contact area between the machine element and the tool. The process liquid consists of a first element which is a refractory metal and a second element which is a chalcogen. The first and second elements are provided in a liquid material. The mechanical rubbing is carried out at a contact pressure between 1% and 100% of the ultimate strength of the mechanical element. The mechanical rubbing thus results in burnishing of the surface of the machine element and deposition of the tribo film on the surface of the machine element. The tribo film comprises the first element and the second element.
