The present invention relates to a skin whitening composition comprising an active agent or an expression inhibitor of PAK4 (p21-activated kinase 4) as an active ingredient. The PAK4 of the present invention promotes melanin production induced by? -MSH or UVB in melanocytes through the CREB and Wnt /? -Catenin signaling pathways. Inhibition of PAK4 activity or expression in melanocytes according to the present invention can effectively inhibit the production of melanin. The activity or expression inhibitor of PAK4 of the present invention can be developed as a skin whitening agent or a therapeutic agent for melanin pigment hyperproliferative disorder.
