The present invention relates to a novel hydrogenase, a gene encoding the novel hydrogenase, and a method for producing hydrogen using the novel hydrogenase, which is isolated from a thermophilic new strain belonging to the genus Thermococcus . According to the method for producing hydrogen according to the present invention, it is possible to produce a large amount of hydrogen only by culturing the strain under a specific culture condition, so that it is economical and efficient compared with the conventional method of producing hydrogen, and can produce hydrogen even at a high temperature .
