The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition containing suberic acid or a salt thereof as an active ingredient, and having effects in alleviating skin wrinkles, improving skin moisturization, removing skin corneum, improving skin elasticity, inhibiting erythema, and alleviating skin photo-aging; a health functional food composition; and a medical product and quasi-drug composition. The suberic acid or the salt thereof according to the present invention shows activities of increasing a skin moisture content, reducing a skin moisture evaporation amount, increasing a procollagen secretion amount, promoting a collagen biosynthesis, inhibiting damage to a collagen fiber, inhibiting decomposition of a collagen fiber, inhibiting erythema, and inhibiting hyperplasia of skin epidermis, thereby being able to usefully utilized as a material for a functional cosmetic product, a health functional food, a medical product, or a quasi-drug providing effects in improving skin moisturization, removing skin corneum, improving skin elasticity, alleviating skin wrinkles, inhibiting erythema, and/or alleviating skin photo-aging.
