The present invention relates to a device and a method for recognizing a hand gesture based on a depth image, the device comprising: a depth image obtaining unit which obtains a depth image including a hand region; a depth point classifying unit which classifies the depth points of the hand region among the depth images according to corresponding hand parts by using a machine learning method; and a hand model matching unit which uses a distance between the classified depth points and the hand part corresponding to each of the depth points to match a three-dimensional hand model with the classified depth points.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2017
