The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for registering images using contour-based registration. The method for registering images using contour-based registration according to the present invention includes the steps of: photographing a medical image of an inspection target before surgery; photographing a surface image of the inspection target; changing the distribution of point data constituting the surface image in consideration of the direction of a rotation error between the medical image and the surface image; and performing the contour-based registration of the medical image and the surface image whose distribution is changed. Accordingly, the present invention can reduce a target registration error.
