According to an embodiment of the present invention, a superconduction magnetic energy storage (SMES) system for reducing an eddy current loss in a micro-grid comprises: a superconducting coil for storing power; a power conversion device connected between the superconducting coil and an AC track of the micro-grid; an inner control unit based on model predictive control (MPC) for controlling an operation of the power conversion device; and an outer control unit for providing a command value for controlling a voltage and a frequency of the micro-grid to the inner control unit based on the MPC. The SMES system can reduce an eddy current loss generated by harmonics included in the DC current of the superconductor coil by reducing an output power, a frequency, and a ripple of DC current of the SMES system.
