FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing benzocyclobutene. Composite compounds of quaternary ammonium salts of 2-methylbenzyl-(trialkyl) ammonium chlorides and hydroquinone or merhylhydroquinone as polymerization inhibitors were used as raw materials in aqueous solutions. The said composite compounds were subjected to pyrolysis to produce the result at a pressure of 2-30 mm Hg and temperature of 350-450°C under argon and with metal oxides present (CuO and FeO)., where R=Me, Et, Py.EFFECT: desired high conversion product can be achieved with a minimum yield of corrosive by-products detrimental to metal surfaces of vacuum equipment.4 ex
