An electronic control unit, a means of locomotion and a method for impedance spectroscopy of a fuel cell (1) of a means of locomotion (10) are proposed. The method comprises the steps of: determining a need to examine the fuel cell (1) by means of impedance spectroscopy with respect to a predefined property, determining changes in a predefined operating state of an electrical component of the means of locomotion, determining that the changed operating state of the electrical component (2) has a suitable load state for the fuel cell (1) for determining the predefined property, and - recording a characteristic value describing the impedance of the fuel cell (1) over time based on the load condition.
