The invention relates to a device for simulating a force on an actuation element of a vehicle, comprising a piston/cylinder unit (5, 12), wherein a working piston (5) is connected to the actuation element (3) via a piston rod (4), said actuation element axially moving the working piston within the cylinder. In a device with which the vehicle operator receives the same sensation as when using a hydraulic actuating device, an approximately circular resistance element (15) protrudes radially into the cylinder, said resistance element separating the cylinder into two cavities (16, 17), both of which are filled with a medium, and a secondary piston (14) which is arranged on an end face of the working piston engages into an opening (18) which is spanned by the resistance element during the movement of the actuation element. The working piston presses the medium from the first cavity into the second cavity while the volume of the circular ring formed between the secondary piston and the resistance element varies.
