SILICON DIOXIDE AEROGEL, HEAT INSULATION, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SILICON DIOXIDE AEROGEL

A method of making a silica airgel comprises: (i) adding an electrically conductive polymer to the sol of an aqueous alkaline silicate solution to convert the sol to a gel; (ii) aging the gel to cause the gel to grow; (iii) hydrophobizing the gel; and (iv) drying the gel. Further provided is a silica airgel comprising an electrically conductive polymer. Furthermore, a heat insulating material is provided which comprises the silica airgel and fibers described above.
