Recommending a redirect from using a limited functionality program application to a full-featured program application in a digital media environment

Disclosed is a digital media environment for recommending a redirect from the use of a limited functionality program application to a full functionality program application. As described herein, the limited functionality program application includes a subset of the functionalities of the full application program application. Interactions by a user with a program application of limited functionality to create or edit a project (for example, a photo, video or document) are monitored. Based on the interactions, it is determined that the user requires functionality for the project that is not available in the limited functionality program application but is supported by the full-featured program application. A recommendation for forwarding the project to the functionality supporting program application full functionality is displayed. The recommendation may include a selectable control that, when selected, causes the project to be passed to the full application program application to allow the functionality to be applied to the project.
