An ornamental structural plastic part 10 is provided. This part includes an integral body having a structural plastic layer, an ornamental surface molded in an in-mold ornament or IMD and an IMD-compatible plastic layer bridging between the structural plastic layer and the IMD. A mechanical connection, generally designated by reference numeral 18, locks the structural plastic layer to the IMD-compatible plastic layer. There is also provided a method of making the part.
