A shield protection device 10 for a shield 12 of a high voltage (HV) cable of a motor vehicle, wherein the HV cable connects a first HV component with a second HV component of the motor vehicle and wherein a first end and a second end of the shield are connected to a separate ground terminal a, b of a chassis 14 of the motor vehicle. The shield protection device includes a capacitor 18 and an operational amplifier 20 (e.g. a 741 OPAMP 26). The capacitor is connected between the first end and the corresponding ground terminal or the second end and the corresponding ground terminal in order to reduce a low voltage current through the shield. Input terminals 22 of the operational amplifier are connected to the ground terminals and an output 24 voltage from the operational amplifier is injected into the capacitor. The gain value of the operation amplifier may less than 1, especially 0.9. The input terminals of the operational amplifier may be connected to the ground terminals such that the operational amplifier is used an inverting amplifier.
