Use of calcium carbonate nanoparticles, having average equivalent spherical diameter of 70-0.5 nm, which is measured by small angle X-ray scattering, as a filler in transparent polymeric compositions. Independent claims are included for: (1) a transparent polymeric composition comprising at least a polymer containing in-built calcium carbonate nanoparticles; and (2) a process of preparing the compositions comprising preparation of the particles i.e. preparing an aqueous phase emulsion (I) in an organic phase, where the emulsion contains a surfactant derivative and a calcium ion source, optionally preparing an aqueous phase emulsion in an organic phase, where the emulsion contains a surfactant derivative and a carbonate ion source, mixing (I) with carbon dioxide or mixing (I) with the obtained emulsion of the previous step, distilling the mixture obtained from the mixing to separate the mixture to a light and a heavy fractions of the nanoparticles and recovering the heavy fraction, precipitating the heavy fraction nanoparticles, separating and drying the precipitated nanoparticles to obtain powder and optionally dispersing the powder in an organic solvent, mixing the powder with a polymer, optionally mixing the powder with a monomer and polymerization of the mixture.
