PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-quality image without reducing the overall contrast of the image while correcting gradation for increasing a luminance level of a region low in the luminance level, in gradation correction of the image.;SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: a gradation correction part 61 configured to correct gradation of YUV data of an image to be processed for increasing the luminance level of a region low in the luminance level; and an adjustment data generation part 62 configured to acquire a high-frequency component in each part of images included in the YUV data, and generate contrast component data comprising luminance information of each pixel including the correction. A luminance value of each pixel corresponding to contrast component data (Y_high 3 (x, y)) output by the adjustment data generation part 62 is added to a luminance value of each pixel of luminance (Y) data in gradation-corrected image data (drc (x, Y)) output by the gradation correction part 61. The overall contrast of the image reduced due to the gradation correction is compensated by reflecting the high-frequency component included in the initial imaged image in the gradation-corrected image data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
