The present invention relates to a detection method (1) of a ground fault in an electric power distribution network (10) characterised in that it comprises the following steps: - acquiring first data (101) indicative of phase currents (I A , I B , I C ) circulating along one or more phase conductors (A, B, C) of said electric power distribution network; - acquiring second data (102) indicative of one or more phase voltages (V A , V B , V C ) of said phase conductors; - acquiring third data (103) indicative of a zero sequence voltage (V 0 ) of said phase conductors, which is generated as a consequence of said ground fau - calculating fourth data (104) indicative of resistive components (I RA , I RB , I RC ) of said phase currents (I A , I B , I C ); - calculating fifth data (105) indicative of a resistive component (I FR ) of a zero sequence current (I F ), which circulates along said electric power distribution network as a consequence of said ground fau - calculating sixth data (106) indicative of the direction of the resistive component (I FR ) of said zero sequence current (I F ).
