The invention relates to a new cosmetic or dermatological agent and its cosmetic and/or pharmacological use, particularly dermatological use, to increase the formation of fibres of the extracellular matrix and to increase the firmness and/or elasticity of the skin and/or mucous membranes and/or the scalp. The invention also relates to the use of said cosmetic and/or dermatological agent in a cosmetic composition. The invention finally relates to a method of cosmetic care comprising the topical application of a cosmetic composition containing an extract of Hamamelis virginiana.
