The blade (1) has a mass actuator (4) comprising a mass (6) that is linearly or curvedly moved in a pendulum motion. The mass actuator is formed as an independent unit with a sensor (7) and a controller (9), and arranged at supporting structures of the blade. The mass actuator is fastened at shell surfaces (2, 3) that are arranged opposite to each other. The mass is arranged at an end of a lever arm that extends in a neutral position parallel to longitudinal axis of the blade. A monitoring device detects signals from the sensor, and executes test stimulation of the actuator. The sensor is selected from a vibration sensor, an accelerometer, a strain sensor, a speed sensor or a displacement sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for damping vibrations of a rotor blade.
