The invention relates to a method for estimating the appearance of a pressure defect in a tyre on a motor vehicle wheel, based on the results of two detection algorithms, known as the temporal and frequential algorithms, each providing, for each wheel, under-inflation probability values (PT, PF) for each speed range from a plurality of wheel speed ranges and an associated confidence factor (CT, CF) dependent on the rolling time in the relevant speed range. According to the invention, a decision module (1) is used that is based on the theory of fuzzy subsets, of which the input signals are the under-inflation probability values (PT, PF) originating from the aforementioned algorithms and the associated confidence factors (CT, CF), said decision module (1) providing a robust probability value (PRST, PRSF) indicative of the pressure defect taking account of the speed ranges for each wheel and each algorithm.
