The present invention describes an innovative method as a complex electronic system for controlling a safety-critical technical process, such as the leadership of an autonomous vehicle, can be realized. A distinction is made between simple and complex software, where the simple software is executed on a fault-tolerant hardware and where multiple diverse versions of the complex software are executed simultaneously on independent fault-containment units (FCUs) and where the complex software results from a decision-making entity , which is realized by means of a simple software, a result is selected which is forwarded to the actuators.
