The present invention provides an improved agricultural method for carrying out precision farming. The method provides an agricultural recommendation for a field. The agricultural recommendation is based on using characteristic information across the field. Representative values are determined based on the characteristic information. A grid is applied to an electronic representation of the field to break it down into smaller areas. The method includes determining an agricultural recommendation for the smaller areas based on representative values in that particular area. The present invention further provides an agricultural method for determining potential yield across a field, the method comprising the steps of generating an electronic representation of the field, receiving characteristic information relating to yield across the field, wherein the characteristic information relates to the yield for at least two different crop cycles (or harvests), partitioning the electronic representation of the field into a grid of cells, determining for each cell and for each crop cycle a representative value based on the characteristic information; and calculating a potential yield for each cell based on the representative values for each of the crop cycles for that cell.
