PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel (meth)acrylic block copolymer and a production method thereof as a technique capable of synthesizing a block copolymer which enables industrial production simply and inexpensively by a general-purpose radical polymerization method other than a living radical polymerization and to provide an intermediate polymer of the (meth)acrylic block copolymer.SOLUTION: A (met)acrylic block copolymer (C) is produced by producing a (meth)acrylic polymer (A2) prepared by modifying two carboxyl groups in a (meth)acrylic polymer (A1) having the two carboxyl groups in one terminal region, which is prepared by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a compound having two carboxyl groups and one or more thiol groups in the molecule, into an acid anhydride group, and polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a (meth)acrylic polymer (A3) having a thiol group in one terminal region, which is prepared by reacting the acid anhydride group with a compound having one or more amino groups and one or more thiol groups in the molecule or a compound having one or more hydroxyl groups and one or more thiol groups in the molecule.SELECTED DRAWING: None
