METHOD AND DEVICE FOR JOINTLY ADAPTATION OF TWO DIMENSIONAL OR MULTIDIMENSIONAL EQUALIZER AND PARTIAL RESPONSE TARGET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for processing multidimensional read back signals from magnetic recording or optical, physical data recording to reduce or control intersymbol interference (ISI) and noise within an acceptable range.SOLUTION: This method is based on a partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) detection for dealing with a time-varying channel status. Filter coefficients of both an equalizer and a partial response (PR) target are jointly adapted so as to correspond to both channel conditions of separable and non separable targets, thereby reducing a complexity of signal detection. The equalizer that updates the filter coefficients of both the equalizer and the PR target according to a formulated mathematical equation and an adaptive engine linked to the PR target are incorporated.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
