PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a thermal transfer ink ribbon requiring no special means such as a hologram and ultraviolet irradiation, capable of being superimposed on the print content of a bar code or the like as well, causing no troubles on the print operation itself, capable of the forgery prevention and authenticity discrimination of the medium to be printed, and also capable of realizing production at a low cost; the medium to be printed; and an authenticity discrimination method for the medium to be printed by a thermal transfer ink ribbon.SOLUTION: Attention is made to pay on the process that design printing for authenticity discrimination by a design 5A for authenticity discrimination is applied to an ink layer 4, and the design 5A for authenticity discrimination is made to remain on the side of a base film layer 2 by thermal transfer to the medium to be printed (label) 6 of the ink layer 4, and, a design print layer 5 for authenticity discrimination by the design 5A for authenticity discrimination is formed on a space between the base film layer 2 and the ink layer 4, and further, the design print layer 5 for authenticity discrimination is made to remain on the side of the base film layer 2 by the thermal transfer of the ink layer 4 to the medium to be treated 6.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
