PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for a Radio Frequency (RF)-based identification, tracking, and locating of objects, which minimize propagation loss and deterioration in location identification accuracy.SOLUTION: A narrow bandwidth signal in a lower VHF frequency range is used to minimize propagation loss and deterioration in accuracy of RF locating signals. A signal is sent from a master unit(s) 21 to a tag. Travel time of the signal is recorded and distance between the master(s) and the tag is calculated. The use of the VHF band allows for achieving longer RF signal penetration distance and increased accuracy. Digital signal processing and software-defined radio techniques of an FPGA 60 are used. Actual waveforms wirelessly transmitted and received are defined by software. Roles of the master unit(s) 21 and the tag can be reversed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
