PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polyester polyol for obtaining a polyurethane which is friendly to the global environment, can easily control the polyurethane reaction and is excellent in elongation and elastic modulus while maintaining heat resistance, weather resistance and water resistance which are characteristics of a polyurethane derived from a polyester polyol and to provide a polyurethane using the polyester polyol.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a polyurethane which comprises at least: a step of reacting a dicarboxylic acid with an aliphatic diol to produce a polyester polyol; and a step of reacting the polyester polyol with a polyisocyanate compound, wherein the dicarboxylic acid contains at least one component derived from a biomass resource, a content of an organic acid in the dicarboxylic acid is more than 0 ppm and 1000 ppm or less, and the organic acid has a pKa value at 25°C of 3.7 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
