PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a degree of harmfulness without separation conversion of a specific nuclide and any facility specialized for nuclide conversion.SOLUTION: A method of reducing a degree of harmfulness of a spent fuel includes: Step S01 of drawing out a spent uranium fuel after burnt in a light water nuclear reactor; Step S02 of deriving a reduction condition of the degree of harmfulness relating to this spent uranium fuel; determination Step S03 of determining whether or not the reduction condition is satisfied; Step S04 of, and it is determined that the reduction condition is satisfied, reprocessing the spent uranium fuel, and recovering uranium, plutonium, and MA; Step S05 of manufacturing a MOX fuel from a nuclear fuel material and MA recovered at the reprocessing step and the nuclear fuel material to be newly added; and Step S06 of drawing out the spent MOX fuel after burnt in a light water reactor. After the determination step, steps up to the step of burning the MOX fuel are repeated. The total concertation of fissionable nuclide in the MOX fuel is within a predetermined range defined for each step of burning the MOX fuel for the spent MOX fuel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
